Wondering if it’s the right time to introduce your furry friend to dog daycare?

DogsWorld Pet Resort has been taking care of dogs for decades and has witnessed countless pups come through our doors at different stages of life.

Here are just a few of the important factors to consider when determining what age is best for dog daycare.

1. Socialization is the key.

Socialization is crucial for our dogs, as it helps them learn how to interact with others. Puppies, in particular, are at a stage where they are still learning how to socialize and interact with other animals and people. This can be an ideal time to start daycare visits, as pups benefit greatly from the support of a social environment.

Experts agree that early socialization leads to happier, more confident, and better-behaved adult dogs. Puppies can typically join daycare as early as 12 weeks, as long as they have completed their first round of vaccinations. (At DogsWorld, our Voluntary Puppy Kindergarten guests can be as young as 8 weeks! Free VPK sessions are held the third Saturday of each month for pups between the ages of 8-20 weeks.)

Keep in mind, younger dogs may need more naps and breaks than older dogs, and they may have a trickier time adjusting to being away from their owners. That’s why DogsWorld offers safe and supervised play areas which can provide puppies with a positive, accommodating outlet to run and play with other little ones under the watchful eye of trained staff.

2. Health considerations play a part.

Taking good care of your pup’s health during the early stages of their life should be a top priority. Before going to daycare, your dog must be up to date with vaccinations to ensure their safety, as well as the safety of all other dogs. Puppies that have yet to complete a full series of vaccinations may not be eligible for daycare, depending on your provider’s policies.

At DogsWorld, all guests must have an updated Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus, Bordetella, and a negative fecal within the year. Rabies 1 year and 3 years are accepted, as are Distemper and Parvovirus combinations known as DHPP or DHLPP.  If your dog requires updates, vaccination must be administered before the date of service or check-in, though individual circumstances may be considered with written documentation from a veterinarian.

3. Adult dogs love to play, too.

Adult dogs can be introduced to daycare at any time, provided vaccinations are current, flea and tick preventatives are being used, and your dog is spayed or neutered.
